HM&E; Systems Live Fire Test Facility
West Bethesda, MD
This facility, located at the Aberdeen Test Center, is designed for the testing of energized HM&E systems subject to live ordnance effects. The facility includes a main test building and a data acquisition and control bunker. It is currently used to support the research, demonstration and evaluation of piping, communication, and electric power systems designed for improved survivability, fight-through and reduced manning.

Machinery Automation and Controls Facility

This facility comprises laboratories for the concept development, modeling and prototyping, computer simulation and evaluation of automated chilled water systems for the purpose of reduced manning; and for the demonstration of autonomic operation and reconfiguration of surface combatant auxiliary air systems. It also includes a laboratory for the development, testing and evaluation of advanced sensors (conventional, fiber optic, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS), and ultrasound), control and electronics hardware and software.
