Computer Automatic Virtual Environment - CAVE Lab
Philadelphia, PA
The CAVE is a three-dimensional immersive modeling environment designed to support modeling and simulation of ship systems and equipment in lieu of expensive full-scale testing.
High Precision Dimensional Measurement Lab
Philadelphia, PA
Environmentally controlled room with measurement table and wide range of precision measurement gages, instrumentation. Able to measure numerous circular geometries: flatness (circumferential waviness), taper (radial slope), squareness (perpendicularity), parallelism, concentricity/eccentricity, roundness (circularity). Measure parts up to 36 in. diameter, 12 in. height and weight up to 1500 lbs. Able to measure parts with multiple diameters an/or faces, and continuous and/or interrupted surfaces. Parts having up to 45 interruptions can be measured without causing inaccuracies. Able to make comparison measurements between surfaces, or between surfaces and a common datum. Capable of high precision measurement of a wide variety of parts: seal parts, bearing parts, hydraulic parts, optical parts, servo parts, motor parts, electronic parts, pistons, machine parts, die parts.
Large Scale Machinery Anechoic Chamber
Philadelphia, PA
Acoustically Isolated concrete floor on pilings with a 700 PSF load rating. Climate controlled. Acoustically treated overhead crane with 20 Ton lift capacity. Large acoustically treated door with a 16 ft. wide by 18 ft. high opening. Both Clean and standard electrical power (440 Volt) are available to run machinery. 1000 KVA capability. Up to 20 MBTU/hr of cooling water is available for test machinery. Both High (3000 psi) and low (125 psi) air supply available. HVAC equipped. Separate data acquisition rooms.
Large Scale Machinery Ante Room
Philadelphia, PA
Concrete floor on pilings with a 700 PSF load rating. 20 ton overhead crane. Both clean and standard electrical power (440 Volt) are available to run machinery . 1000 KVA capability. Up to 6 MW of cooling water is available for test machinery. Both high (3000 psi) and low (125 psi) air supply available. HVAC equipped. Separate data acquisition rooms.
Mechanical & Acoustic Measurements Lab
Philadelphia, PA
This facility is used for system development and testing of small-scale structures in the areas of Structural analysis, strain gages, mechanical impedance, acoustics. Testing and evaluation of LBES electronic boards from a DDG class ship to determine if these boards need to be repaired and returned to active status. Perform Airborne Noise Measurements on the DD(X) and Land Based Engineering Site (LBES).
Reduced Scale Advanced Demonstrator
Philadelphia, PA
The test facility is used for testing and development of new equipment and software associated with future chill water and automated fire suppression systems. This reduced scale, closed loop, reconfigurable system provides for the testing, evaluation and demonstration of advanced control algorithms using central and distributed control hierarchical architectures for distributed shipboard auxiliaries.
Shipboard Hydraulics Lab
Philadelphia, PA
This facility includes an instrumented, computer-controlled hydraulic power plant that duplicates acoustically quiet fluid flow and pressure from a submarine main and vital service plant. High and low pressure air, electric power, fresh water, and cooling water (1,000,000 Btu heat exchanger) support test set-up and operation. Includes 1,000 gal (pressurized) hydraulic service tank, off-line pump/filter unit and high capacity return line filters. A Compri-Technic Contamination Eliminator is available to clean piping and hoses prior to use and for lay-up. A raised mezzanine supports the control room and another work space.
