Costs to dispose of batteries containing mercury by traditional methods through the Defense Reutilization Marketing Office (DRMO) range upward to $20 per pound. Naval Programs are not charged for the disposal of silver-zinc batteries, but, the potential value of the silver within the batteries is lost when they are simply turned in to the DRMO.
