Navy Lakehurst (New Jersey) is the largest government owned facility east of the Mississippi River. It consists of 7,430 acres strategically located 45 miles east of Philadelphia, 10 miles west of the Atlantic Ocean coast, 60 miles north of Atlantic City, and 50 miles south of New York City. It abuts Fort Dix to the west forming a 38,000-acre Fort Dix/McGuire Air Force Base/Lakehurst complex. It operates a 4,000-acre test area and controls approximately 3,000 feet of airspace within a radius of 5 nautical miles. The Runway Arrested Landing Site is a 11,000+ feet runway. Lakehurst employs over 1900 personnel including approximately 600 scientists and engineers.
