| Ocular Scanning Instrument (OSI) Technical Support Working Group (TSWG) and Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA) | The eye can reveal exposure to chemical or biological agents prior to the onset of normal clinical symptoms. The OSI is a light, hand-held, battery-powered, easy-to-use device that scans the eyes and rapidly completes differential analysis for organophosphate nerve agents, botulinum toxin, cyanide, and carbon monoxide exposure, in less than one minute. DARPA funded a Phase I SBIR project, and jointly funded Phase II with the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG). TSWG funding for Phase III resulted in the delivery of a hand-held prototype. The company is attempting to develop the capability to detect exposure to ionizing radiation, infectious agents, other toxic industrial chemicals, and internal trauma such as pulmonary and traumatic brain injury. | STORY-60221 |
