Chlorine Dioxide Disinfectant and Handheld Sprayer
TechLink
The US Army has primary responsibility for food safety for the US military. As such, it seeks to protect the Warfighter from bio-warfare agents, agri-terrorist threats, and the spread of foodborne illness through secondary contamination of food contact surfaces. The latter is achieved mainly through preventive techniques designed to improve the sanitation of food preparation surfaces and food-processing equipment. D-FENS conveniently generates aqueous solutions of the proven disinfectant chlorine dioxide. Chlorine dioxide routinely inactivates food pathogens and resistant bacterial spores, while minimizing hazards to the user and the environment. Foods treated directly with chlorine dioxide are rendered safe without a loss of quality. D-FENS can also disinfect sanitary surfaces, clean rooms, and medical equipment. Add water on day of use. Benefits: Controlled, point-of-use generation of ClO2 without transporting the weight of water Surface disinfectant treatment by spraying, pouring, or immersion No unpleasant odor Multi-use spray dispenser Safe for human use and the environment The US Army is seeking a licensee for this patent-pending technology which has been reduced to practice. Some further development of a mixer/sprayer apparatus would be required. Collaborative research and development (CRADA) opportunities may be possible.
