Wireless Network Intrusion Detection
TechLink
The United States Air Force seeks industry partners to license and commercialize an advanced technology that provides wireless network situational awareness for network management. The Wireless Intrusion Detection Sensor (WIDS) enables network personnel to enforce wireless network policies such as the Department of Defense Directive 8100.2 and aids in the early detection of malicious network intrusions via wireless networks. WIDS provides the geo-location of unauthorized wireless LAN connections. WIDS is a patent pending software and hardware product developed by the Air Force Research Lab Information Directorate (AFRL-RI). AFRL-RI is a cutting edge research organization with a long and successful history of advanced product development for cyber operations, advanced computing architectures, information fusion, and information exploitation. WIDS detects anomalous wireless activity and vulnerable configuration settings and provides data to the network management system. WIDS detects and reports Rogue Access Points, Unauthorized Clients, Unprotected SSIDs, WEP Usage and Ad-Hoc Networks. WIDS provides information on a number of network exploitation methods including Network Discovery and Probing, Man-in-the-Middle attacks, Connection Hijacking, Denial of Service Attacks and MAC Address Spoofing. Key Advantages Does not require sensor calibration making it especially good for areas with changing RF signatures Geo-location capability without system power and frequency configuration Works on all RF communication not just 802.11, 2.4GHz WIDS has been reduced and tested
