Ultra-Sensitive, Low-Power Magnetometer

SPAWAR SYSTEMS CENTER, PACIFIC

SSC Pacific inventors have developed a novel, magnetic sensor (The Advanced Dynamic Fluxgate Magnetometer ADFM), using newly-discovered aspects of the physics of coupled nonlinear oscillator networks that overcome many current limitations to deliver high-power efficiency and high sensitivity, at a lower cost and power than existing room temperature magnetometers. Market Potential Has the potential to be useful in security applications when placed around buildings or in areas to detect metal on intruders. It may be used as a very sensitive compass for direction-finding, or incorporated into a compact and deployable hand-held device. Lastly it can be used for security applications in littoral waters. Benefits Able to operate at wide range of temperatures Reduced cost Reduced power requirements Easy to operate Compact and lightweight
