Multi-functional Self-Decontaminating Surface Coatings
NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY
Investigators at the Naval Research Lab have developed biocides that enable surfaces to continuously decontaminate against a variety of pathogenic bacteria, such as Staph, E. coli, and Anthrax, which could have a wide-reaching impact - both in public and private sectors. The applications for these biocides are wide range. This technology can easily be incorporated in many coating/paint systems ranging from military chemical agent resistant coating to urethane commercial systems to water-based latex systems either in original form or as a simple "drop-in" additive on an as-needed basis. Benefits Decontamination against a broad spectrum of pathogenic bacteria, spores, viruses and mildew 1% or less of biocide is needed for decontamination UV stability Fast decontamination Thermal stability helps facilitate use in molded products
