Electra Laser Facility
Washington, DC
Electro-Optics Laser Applications Laboratory
Panama City, FL
This laboratory contains three, newly renovated and independently operable, laser qualified facilities with a wide variety of optical and electronic support equipment. Several lasers are available, including low, medium, and high power, with frequencies running from the ultraviolet to the near infrared, and thermal. Specialized and general camera systems include intensified, color, black and white, thermal, passive multi-spectral, and high dynamic range, and laboratory and field portable radiometric and photometric equipment. One of the facilities contains an indoor test tank with approved laser access and operation which measures 8 feet long by 12 feet wide by 8 feet deep. The tank may contain fresh or salt water and is equipped with a circulation pump and filter along with support structures for optics, cameras, and other accessories.
Laser Effects Test Facility
Kirtland AFB, NM
The Laser Effects Test Facility of the Air Force Research Laboratory’s Directed Energy Directorate conducts experiments for the Laboratory, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, as well as other government agencies, U.S. industry, and universities. The facility’s primary objective is to perform research to better understand the physics of laser interactions on various materials.
Laser Engineered Net Shape Facility
Picatinny Arsenal, NJ
Laser Engineered Net Shape (LENS) is an additive manufacturing technology that uses laser power and metal powder to repair, or build, solid metal components. Components can be fabricated or repaired directly from CAD data or through a teach and learn process. Various deposition heads are available to perform repairs on the outside of a work piece or inside diameter. Depositions are preformed using a 3kW Ytterbium Fiber Laser in a work area of 3'x5'x3'.
