The capabilities of the NFESC fiber optic laboratory include fusion splices and spectral analyses. Equipment for these functions includes a Sumitomo Fusion Splicer, an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR), and a Spectral Attenuation Measurement System. The fiber optics laboratory is located at the NFESC and is contained in a portable, 20-ft. mil-van.
